Geocache Description:

Numerosi i monumenti sepolcrali.

It was founded by the Dominicans in 1220, and, round the half of the 16th century, three spans were addede in the direction of the façade and the choir was extended. Notwithstanding several restoration works, the building still preserves elements witnessing its medieval origin. The three nave interior is in Gothic style and is bare but imposing at the same time; firebrick prevails, together with a white dressed stone decoration. There are several funerary monuments. Among them, the most remarkable ones are the Scotti's funerary ark (15th century)a sarcophagus sculptured in Verona's crushed stone and the gothic, trefoil niche of the Arcelli family (14th century). A painting by Gaspare Landi (Ascent to the Calvarium)hangs in the neoclassical Rosary Chapel; Gaspare Landi was a painter from Piacenza who succeeded to Canova as director of St. Luke's Academy in Rome.
