Geocache Description:

You're heard of MEGA-EVENTS? This World Wide Flash Mob (WWFM) is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. Come be part of this historic micro event! Only 15 minutes long! There will be dozens of other events with thousands of other geoacahers all coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers for a fun and unique event and to introduce other (muggles) to the fun of geocaching. You MUST be present and sign a log sheet DURING this time to claim the event. Wear your blaze orange to show your safety skills for caching in PA.

Check out the bookmark list this event is on to see all the other scheduled WWFM IV events. The event will begin precisely at 1:00 pm EST (as determined by the GPS clock) on November 8, 2008. The event will be held at Heritage Plaza in Downtown Altoona. This is in an open public space (and it is also a waymark on waymarking.com). The event will be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers.

The First 12 to post a "Will Attend" log and then come to the event will get a WWFM IV Pathtag!

Minute by minute itinerary:

12:45 - 12:59
Mill about and mosey. Be nonchalant and casual. Look like a muggle. Don't look like a gathering waiting to happen. Mosey as realistically as you can. This is part of the fun. We will seem to appear out of nowhere. Make sure to keep your blaze orange out of sight in the moments leading up to the event.

12:58
Videographer will begin filming video for the entire event to capture the moments.

1:00
emilierene will walk to ground zero with two containers for logs and Travel Bugs. This is the signal that the event has begun! At this point, all geocachers will converge, seemingly coming out of "nowhere" and put on their blaze orange.

One volunteer will hand out bags that will include "log sheets" / giveaway slips (same sheet), event timeline, and other information. Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become a log book) to qualify for attendance and drop them in the designated container. Please BYOP! (Bring your own pen) Each caching name or group should get a bag and indicate the number in their group for WWFM IV statistics. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.

If any muggles are curious about the event we will have a volunteer hand out fliers that explain geocaching.

1:00 - 1:06
Mingle. Share stories. Brag. Trade TBs via the swap container. Take pictures. Sign the log (sheets). CITO the local area!

1:06
Meal - Enjoy the official "meal" of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Be sure to CITO your wrappers!

1:08
Group Photo - Assemble FAST and listen to the photographer for directions.

1:12
Prize Drawing - Includes a new geocoin, geo swag, and FTF honors.

1:14
One minute warning is called "It is now 1:14!" Prep to leave, but don't "look" like you are prepping.

1:15 EXACTLY
Wait for it ... then LEAVE the area without a trace (right at 1:15 in a disorderly manner / different directions). We want to clear the video taping area (we will continue to tape for a minute or so) to show us "vacate." The (hopefully empty) bucket for TBs will be packed up. The log sheet collection container will be packed up and sealed. We will leave the area to go ... elsewhere (see below for post-event plans).

1:17
Videographer will end the taping.

Events that happen after 1:15:01 do not count as part of THIS event.

I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?" That's part of the fun!

Tell your friends and help promote the event!

Volunteer Staff is needed!
Please contact me if you are willing to have a job duty during the event. All volunteers will get an official WWFM IV Pathtag! Jobs are:
Team rebnreb, Durango633, & eggplanti9 - Facilities/Information Managers - Handing out event bags, watching log and TB containers, and handing out prizes
HolyCowboys & redtailforester - Food Services Managers - distribution of event "meal"
r.e.s.t.seekers - Timekeeper - let us know how those 15 minutes are flying by!
Sparticus06 - Videographer - you won't end up in the group photo, which may be a good or bad thing for you (if you have a camera all the better).

Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. There are a few lots and some on-street parking spots around the area, but better safe than sorry. If you can't find parking you might miss the event!

If you plan to attend please log so with the "Will Attend" option. Place this event in your WATCH LIST to receive updates. Feel free to email any suggestions; they are always welcome.

Note: The event will be officially over at 1:15. Afterwards, participants are welcome to get together at Friendly's Restaurant on Plank Road where we can meet, chat, eat, and plan for more caching!!! Please note in your log if you think you will be able to come to this post-event.

11/5/08: There will be event bags with logs, schedules, and information in them. Please be sure to get one from the person handing them out at the beginning of the event (they will have a sign) Please BYOP (bring your own pen)! Each geocaching user name/team should get one event bag because the logs will be asking for the number of people that came with each name/team. This is for WWFM IV statistics to see how many people attended around the world. Also, your logs will serve as your prize drawing slips, so make sure you get them into the log container as soon as you can. Drawings will take place right after the group photo.

Post Event Update:
Here's a link to a video of our WWFM IV event. Thanks so much to Sparticus06 for his services and making a great momento for us all.
