What's Wrong With Bromsgrove?
Do a google map search for caches and it a veritable blank page...and yet Bromsgrove and the surrounding area has some of the prettiest countryside, most interesting buildings and coolest history going for it.

Third in a series of caches taking you to a few of the best bits in Bromsgrove and it's surrounds.

Site of what was Barnsley Hall Assylum.

Due to the governments change of policy and the move to 'care' in the community schemes the hospital, built early in the 20th century was closed after 80+ years and what was a large area full of beautiful buildings gave way to modern executive homes.

Many conservationists tried several times to get the government to grant listed building status on many of the buildings but failed. A wonderful ballroom (supposedly the finest in Worcestershire) was one of structures lost.

The largest impact upon many people in the town was the loss of the imposing but beautiful gothic water tower - it was a landmark in the broadest sense of the word. On the day it was demolished lorry drivers on the nearby M5 stopped on the hard shoulder to watch the passing of what had been a feature of their trips up and down the country for all of their driving careers. The loss was felt deeply.

The developers did keep two very pretty buildings - the administration block and the chapel.

(the above with thanks to griping 'fatmark of Bromsgrove')

Please park considerately near these buildings and take a short walk to the cache - please leave it hidden better than you find it and beware of Muggles as it's a haven for dog-walkers.

Near to cycle route so accessable by bike.
