IFF Kaleto - 2008 Fall Geocaching Event - a place for fine wine, good food and neverending stories under the starry sky.
Welcome to the official page of IFF Kaleto – the 2008 Fall Geocaching Event!
Before you read on, be CAREFUL! This geocaching event is hosted with love, which means you are going to have GREAT time if you join us! The First Bulgaria Gold TB Hotel, generally located in the centre of the capital, will be also brought exclusively for the event; so everyone will be able to exchange geocoins, trade items and log their find of the TB Hotel!
So, here is what you have to do if you might be interested.
DATES
The official starting date of the geocaching event will be November the 1st, 2008 at 12PM before lunch. It is possible to extend the event and start it one day before, on October 31st. Further in this text you will learn how to make a reservation for the event, because the available places are limited (but enough). You will also learn what to do in case you would like to extend your stay.
COORDINATES
The meeting point will be in front of the guesthouse, located at the following coordinates : N43 37.512 E22 40.700. I won’t say more; as I would like to keep the place as a surprise. And it will be a good surprise for sure!
ACCOMODATION
The heart of the geocaching event will in a guest house, located just a few blocks away from our meeting point. The place is just gorgeous! I have checked it personally and I met up with the manager; who is also an amazing guy. The place is a real house which we are going to rent just for us and nobody else. The house has separate rooms, bathrooms with bathtubs and running hot water, a good kitchen where we can prepare our food, good audio system, TV, wireless internet and more. You name it – we have it!
That main guesthouse has 4 rooms which can accommodate three couples and one single person comfortably. In case we fill up the guest house; there is a second guest house, which is an extension of the main one and offers the same quality and comfort on the same price as well. This house features two rooms that can accommodate up to 4 more, well, geocachers.
The price per person will be 20 lv.; and the maximum number of people to be accommodated comfortably is 11. In case of bigger interest; I will suggest additional accommodation options of course!
DISTANCE FROM THE CAPITAL OF BULGARIA
The driving distance from the capital of Bulgaria is 175 kilometers. Add 40 more for a round trip to the cave Magurata; which will be also included in our program.
TRANSPORTATION
You can reach the 2008 Fall Geocaching Event either by Train or with a car. I will be heading to the meeting with my car, and I can offer three places (carpool). I have to warn everyone who joins that I am a new driver and riding in my car could be a little bit strange, but safe since I am not in a hurry at all. The car has AC and a nice sound system that plays mp3’s from various sources; so bring your USB pen sticks or memory cards to enhance the fun! The car runs on fuel; so the price will be around 16 lv/cacher including getting you from your home and bringing you back after the meeting plus the trip to the Magurata cave included.
By train, there are three good options that depart from the Central Railway Station at 07:05 AM, 12:15 PM and 4 PM. They reach the train station “ORESHEC” respectively at 11:14 AM, 4:37 PM and 8:23 PM. And yes, ORESHEC is the train where you have to part the train. From there you can take a minibus or a cab up to the event coordinates (or contact me and I’ll come and get you if no other options are available).
PROGRAM
October, 31st
In case we start the meeting from Friday, October 31st; we will have a free program on that day, including shopping, making a nice dinner, drinking responsibly and having as much fun as we possibly could!
For the next two days, November 1st and November 2nd, the program is the same. A free one; which we will create. But here are a few hotspots around our amazingly nice guesthouse – for quite some time; there have been two nice geocaches; one of them located among the nice red rocks surrounding the fortress; and one on the road that connects ORESHEC to Belogradchik. We can find those (well, some of us have already done so, I am sure). For all of you; there is a brand new geocache as well, right in the heart of the Belogradchik fortress – which appears to be another hot spot, including the fortress itself and the surrounding observatory. Also, around the fortress there are very good eco trails where we might decide to hide our group’s cache – a cache that will be created from all of the participants as we have always done on our meetings! And yet another very interesting place; also blessed with a good cache to find appears to be the Magurata cave, which has a very interesting history and is an amazing monument of our ancient history.
All of those; including everything else that we could think of makes Belogradchik appear as a real paradise for the adventure-seeker; which I’m sure YOU are!
On a related note; I will also point you to the best place in the town to get a dinner (in case you don’t participate in the one we will create ourselves in the guesthouse). The place is just unbelievable! If you are eating outside often; you might decide to stop doing so when you find out what THAT place has to offer – a calm, simple village atmosphere, yet mixed up with amazing dishes that will delight your taste. We can also order food from this same place for out table up in the guesthouse!
RESERVATIONS
No event would go fine without reservations. Of course; everyone is free to come on their own as well; but in order for me to be able to book the guesthouse where we can lead our main meetings and dinners; I would need to know the number of geocachers who are going to attend the meeting. That would greatly help me to reduce the moments when something is not enough; not available or not organized to the maximum expectations of all of us.
