Geocache Description:

Despite the name, you will not get wet finding this cache. Unless, that is, you happen to fall in the nearby brook or it is raining and you do not have rain gear.

Finding this cache will require that you make a decent hike up Schunemunk Mountain. You can trade distance for steepness, but it will still be a good hike.

So, go ahead and make a day of it. You can put together a number of great loop hikes and through hikes on this fine mountain. And, if you want, you can grab a few caches along the way.

The cache is located just off the Long Path and is not on NYS Park Land. If you appoach from the small parking area near Hil-Mar Lodge, as I did, the cache is in the area where the trail starts heading south. You will cross a small brook before you make a short trip off trail.

When I placed this cache, the best accuracy I could get from my GPSr was 18', and that was after letting it sit and average for a long, long time. You are seeking a 1l Lock & Lock. If you have any problems locating the cache, feel free to use the hint.

While it may look possible to approach the cache from Mountain Lodge Park, there is no parking there that I know of, unless you happen to live there yourself or know someone who does.

The additional waypoint parking areas are for the locations identified on the NY/NJ Trail Conference maps. Having a set of the West Hudson Trails map set is probably a good idea.

Having hiked to this cache several times myself, and noted that most finders have taken the more difficult down and up approach to the cache, I've upped the difficulty rating a tad. Going up the hill over wet rocks is tough enough, but going down is even worse.
