This cache is located in Riverside State Park. There is some rocky
trail as you approach the cache site but most of the route is a
relatively easy walk over paved trail and dirt track.
Rick's Uncle Dan was a highly decorated World War II veteran who
was shot down over the South Pacific and became a paraplegic as a
result of his injuries. He loved to take his son and nephew out in
the woods, camping and fishing from his wheelchair. He would have
enjoyed camping here with the boys, and it seems appropriate that
the best starting point for getting to the site is from the
Military Cemetery Trailhead off of Government Way. The half mile
walk to the cache site has beautiful views of the Spokane River and
the valley to the northwest. Cache is now an ammo can and contains
a photo of Uncle Dan with some WWII memorabilia, including a photo
of a piece of metal from the plane he was in when he was shot down.
There is a bullet hole in the middle of the metal, which you can
see if you look closely at the photo.
