Geocache Description:

A driveby cache on the old Sedbergh Rd out of/in to Kendal. Small but big enough for small TBs & Geocoins.

I work with some challenging kids at a school in Sedbergh and they always want to go home via the old road past the reservoir rather than past the Castle Green Hotel and they always refer to it as the "three bears road". Rather shamefacedly one of them showed me why. See the Gallery!

The views from the gateway at the crest of the ridge are outstanding on a clear day and I couldn't help but put a cache there so as to share them more widely.

You could pull into the gateway itself for a pure cache and dash but there is a pull in on the north (Sedbergh bound) side of the road less than 50 metres down the road back towards Kendal if you want to savour the views.

To the East, Lambrigg windfarm is framed by the Howgills and in the South, Arnside viaduct snakes across the top of the bay with Heysham A&B dominating the horizon. On a good day like today Blackpool Tower can be picked out behind the chemical works at the mouth of the Ribble, especially if you use binoculars.

But to the West, Kendal nestles around its castle with the whole array of both the Southern and Eastern fells forming the panorama behind.
