Along the Western Ridge Traditional Cache

Located along the Western Ridge Trail on Schunemunk Mountain, this cache will offer you a hike and some spectacular views.
This cache, hidden along the Western Ridge Trail, is NOT on state property, so it requires no permit. Rather, it is hidden on private property that many of the trails on this side of the mountain run through.
How you get here is up to you, but either way, you're going to have to hike to it.
From Hil-Mar, you can reach this one. But the Western Ridge gets mighty tricky at some points.
From Shaw/Taylor Road, you can also reach this one. You'll be hiking up the by now familiar Dark Hollow or Sweet Clover trail to ridge line.
Kayla, my 8-year-old daughter, has been up this mountain with me on several occasions, and today she wanted to hide a cache (or two). I tried to convince her that if she wanted to hide the cache, she would have to carry the cache.
So I carried up the ammo can, but she found this spot. I think it is a fine spot, and we hope you think so too.
