WorldWide Flash Mob Event #4 at Kingsport Greenbelt
WorldWide Flash Mob #4 is a synchronized micro-event. Why would a crowd of people riding bicycles and walking seem to converge on this hapless spot? For fun – of course! And the bewilderment of muggles. The timing is to be simultaneous with 10AM Pacific Standard Time. Click the bookmark to check out other WWFM4 events around the world.
This event will only be 15 minutes long. The details are:
• The event date is Saturday, November 8th, 2008. Rain or shine (hopefully latter).
• The event will start promptly at 1:00 pm and will end promptly at 1:15 pm.
• Arrive by bike or foot on the Greenbelt, drive up to the parking lot, emerge from Salsarita’s Mexican place or Marble Slab ice cream or PetSmart, etc.
• Before the event do not gather in a group or be within 300 feet of the Greenbelt sign in the background image/gallery until 5 minutes prior to 1:00pm, then head to the sign. The mob is to converge at the ground zero coordinates. (Exception will be the webcam crew and organizer which have permission to set up their gear.)
• There will be an event logbook to sign, which is required to be able to log the event
• You must be present the entire 15 minutes to log the event!
• Since the local Boy Scout council is collecting bagged, boxed, and canned goods (metal cans, not grandma’s) for Second Harvest Food Bank starting this day, check your pantry. Anything that has not moved in the past year toss into a double plastic bag. No glass!
• After the event is over, please disperse by bike, foot, or into the local places. Less than half dozen folks can stay within the 300 foot radius of GZ.
• Travel Bugs and Geocoins brought to the event are welcomed. Trading and discoveries will need to happen quickly. “The Key to Fun” travel bug will be given to the driver who came the furthest distance (so mark home coords in your GPSr!).
• There may be a video camera setup to record this strange phenomenon.
• The organizer will be buying ice cream or coffee afterwards (depending on temperature and their preference) for 3doxies, uetvol, justpassnthru, and gardner387 as sincere apologies for sending them on a wild goose chase to a completely incorrect set of coordinates.
ITINERARY:
• 12:45 PM - 12:55 PM - Participants wait patiently and/or stroll around the area. STAY AWAY from ground zero until the signal is given. As much as you can, act like a muggle, pretend not to know each other or give any indication that something is about to happen. At 12:55 PM slowly begin to move towards ground zero.
• 1:00 PM – The official logbook (clipboard) is opened. Start signing quickly. Start the item trading (if desired). Drop off canned/bag/boxed food items into the back of a green geotruck (under tarp if unfortunately needed).
• 1:10 PM - Group picture takes place. (Listen carefully and follow all directions given by photographer quickly). Say “cheese”.
• 1:14 PM - One minute warning is called "It is now 1:14!" “The Key to Fun” TB is handed to who we think came the furthest. Prepare to leave. Organizers seal up log container for transport.
• 1:15 PM EXACTLY – Everyone leave immediately! Meet elsewhere if desired.
• Hopefully by 1:20 PM, the webcam crew is done and gone. The organizer and wild goose chasers will be in Marble Slab (or heading to Starbucks).
Volunteers Needed:
• Webcam: altosaxplayer
• Logbook holder: tyroniac
• Random photographer(s): jollymon9999 wife
• Organizer/food hauler: vhasler
