richary: Drat. I did notice the river had broken it's banks above the weir earlier in the week during the heavy rain, but don't know if it would have gotten this high here, would be surprised. Went and had a check this afternoon but no luck. So it's either floated off somewhere or been muggled.

Decided not to replace this one as the spot isn't that special despite the history. Shame about the coins that were in there.

Step back in time to Parramatta's past

The Harris Park heritage walk celebrates Harris Park as a place of firsts. While I haven't made this a multi covering all the sites you might like to grab an infosheet from the Parramatta Tourist Centre and discover the oldest surviving European building in Australia at Elizabeth Farm as well as various other buildings from the early 1800s.

This cache has been placed to take you to the site of a recently uncovered and restored wall built by convict labour in the 1790s as part of the Queens Wharf area and provided off stream mooring for vessels plying the river between Sydney and Parramatta. It is the only visible remnant of the Byrne's Mill complex, an impressive building of 4 floors built in 1841. Initially a flour mill, after 5 years it expanded into cloth manufacture. The discovery was accidental when Parammatta Council Engineer Dick Bass slipped down the river embankment earlier this year and found it.source: Parramatta Advertiser

The cache should be an easy find, it is visible without moving any rocks though you may need to move one to retrieve it and is a camo'ed Sistema container. Placed in the new wall higher up after the council has done maintenance and created a walkway here.
