When you park your vehicle, you’ll be amazed at the view
of the Beaver Valley, Nottawasaga Bay, and Old Baldy (see pictures)
from what was once actually a waste transfer site. We can remember
when the parking area still contained an assortment of household
appliances and other discarded items. Your hike to discover the
cache will take you onto the Bruce Trail, and through an area known
as the Herman McConnell Memorial Forest. This 102 hectare Beaver
Valley property was donated to the Ontario Heritage Trust in 1988.
The lands include the wooded tableland above the Escarpment, the
rock face, the talus slope, and the fields below. Managed by the
Ministry of Natural Resources, the permitted recreational uses
include hiking and scenery appreciation.
To find this cache, you will need to use the information found
on the sign at the posted coordinates. There are 5 lines of text on
the sign. You will need to use all 5 lines. Read the following
instructions carefully, and remember that you are adjusting the
posted coordinates, not the parking coordinates!
- Add the number of letters in the first line to the number of
letters in the fourth line. The resulting sum is how much you must
increase the last two digits of the West coordinates by to get the
actual cache coordinates.
- Add the number of letters in the third line to the greater of
the two numbers in the fifth line. The resulting sum is how much
you must increase the last two digits of the North coordinates by
to get the actual cache coordinates.
- To find A, solve: A = (total number of words on the
sign)/2
- To find B, solve: B = (the smaller of the two numbers in the
fifth line) - (A – number of letters in second line).
