I found this park by accident while driving around town with my
daughters. It is a quiet, secluded little sanctuary located near
the center of Barrie. There are many interesting highlights in this
little park including a paved path, a small bridge, a small
playground, and lots of greenery - all this is tucked in between
apartments and private homes.
The most interesting feature of this park is just off the paved
path. If you follow the trail into the woods and up the small hill,
you will find an amazing old tree. Long ago the tree caught fire
and burned from the inside out. Despite losing over 80% of its
fibre to the fire, the hollow shell of the old tree still stands
tall and proud.
You are looking for a 35mm film canister hidden inside the tree.
Be sure to bring your own writing instrument. The tree is still
charred on the inside so you will get dirty looking for this cache
so please dress appropriately.
Parking is available along the east side of Peel street at the
trailhead.
