Please note that this cache has been moved slightly due to it been found by kids.
The ground is good for walking on but there is some steps to the cache which after rain can get muddy & slippery.
St Helen's well - Goodmanham
St Helen's well is located alongside a footpath leading off the Wolds Way, which passes through the valley below the well.
The spring rises on a hill slope and flows from a cleft beneath the roots of an old Elder tree, the water is then channeled into a shallow, triangular shaped concrete 'bath' before being piped away down the hillside. It was suggested that this unusual 'bath' may have been used for healing purposes, but the proximity of the dis-used railway line lower down the hill, raises the possibility that the well water may have been collected and piped to the trackside for use by the steam trains in days gone by.
Whatever its past use, the well is in a peaceful wooded location, with easy access and there is even a bench provided for weary travelers to rest by the well.
This was our first dog’s favourite watering hole, I love to come here and sit on the bench and listen to the running water and the birds singing, to me this is a place where you can soon get lost in your thoughts.
You can park on the road side but then it’s only a few meters walk to the cache, you could park at SE 88524 42341 or SE 89939 42656 which is only a short easy walk to the cache, approx 15-20min’s.
