I See Dead People - Long Beach Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

tbn501s: The original intent of this cache was that it would be primarily accessed from the adjacent street, with the container's location easily accessed tho' difficult to just see casually.

Alas, what originally was a small "street park" on which to park and access the cache was consumed by a long-going construction project which prevented any level of access to the cache except through the cemetery. That path was meant to be an educational alternative in accessing the cache, not the primary.

As such was never the intended path of access, regretfully it appears that it's time to publish the obituary for the cache.

Fortunately, it did get to be cool!

Geocache Description:

Beware - the end is above us all...

OK, it's kinda cliche, given that the movie "The Sixth Sense" came out in 1999 and the young kid by now is probably old enough to have grandchildren. But by virtue of the fact that this area is a virtual dead zone of geocache activity, we feel that the title is appropriate.

Cache is overlooking a privately-owned cemetary. Further east is Long Beach Municipal Cemetery Entrance sign
which is maintained by the City's Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine. The Municipal Cemetery is the first and oldest cemetery in the city of Long Beach.

Long Beach Municipal is sometimes incorrectly referred to as Signal Hill Cemetery because of the locality, but officially it has never been called that. One will find it listed in obituaries and on death certificates, but no record of the cemetery being named that has been found. It is the name of the area however, the cemetery used by those living on or near Signal Hill.

Each year the Historical Society of Long Beach sponsors a walking tour of the Municipal Cemetery around Halloween, to help cemetery appreciation and historical preservation. Slightly ghoulish, if you think about it.

BTW: Many of you will get a second chance in trying to locate the cache container. Those in the area adjacent never got any chance, or as Neil Young would say, "...never got to fall in love, never got to be cool".
