A LITTLE REVIEW
Since Joseph Brant and his warriors supported the British during the American Revolution, they lost all of their lands in New York when the war was over.

When the war ended, Brant chose to remain allied with the Crown. He asked the Crown for land where he and his people could settle, and he was granted land six miles deep on either side of the Grand River, from its source to its mouth.

Brant led his people out of New York and into Ontario, to the lands they had been given by the Crown. The place where Brant and his people crossed the Grand River has become known as Brant's Ford, or Brant's Crossing.

OTHER POINTS OF INTEREST WORTH INVESTIGATING IN THIS AREA IF YOU HAVE TIME

1. Go to the centre of the footbridge right beside GZ. Face northwest and you will be looking at the Grand River flowing under the mid-span of the Lorne Bridge. This is generally thought to be the area where Brant and his people crossed the Grand River. (Great photo spot!)

2.. Information board about bridges over the Grand River
(N 43 08.191 W 080 16.225)

3. Information board about the Founding of Brantford
(N 43 08.173 W 080 16.044)

4. A boulder and plaque placed by the Brant Historical Society marking the site of Brant's Crossing/Brant's Ford
(N 43 08.210 W 080 16.270)

5. A sundial monument, with a bronze portrait of Joseph Brant located at the base
(N 43 08.217 W 080 16.265)
