Superman. Kal-El, the last son of Krypton. "Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound"... Disguised as mild-mannered Clark Kent, a reporter for the Daily Planet, Superman fights for Truth, Justice and the American Way. (Created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster)
Rocketed from a dying world (Krypton) by his scientist-father (Jor-El), baby Kal-El crash-landed on Earth and was found by Jonathan and Martha Kent. He grows up to use his powers to fight crime and help his fellow man. He eventually moves from his hometown, Smallville, to live in Metropolis (New York City) and works as a newspaper reporter at the Daily Planet.
All around the world, his symbol is instantly recognizable. Almost every kid's dream is to be Superman. He can fly. He's invulnerable. He's strong, fast, powerful. He has super vision powers. And.. he has a humility that's as great as he is.
Welcome to Highbridge Park and Highbridge Tower! Located in the upper east side of Manhattan, this park gets it's name from The High Bridge, located to the east, connecting to the Bronx. Established in 1865, this park was a sort of "uptown version" of Central Park, and is seeing a huge renovation going on throughout the entire park. Looking up at Highbridge Tower , is part of the High Bridge Aqueduct Bridge system which was created (opened in 1848) to bring water into Manhattan, from the Croton Aqueduct. If Superman were to have a headquarters in Washington Heights, it would be in this tower.
The tower is open for tours a few times a year by the Urban Park Rangers. It's definitely a sight you should not pass up on. You should try to coordinate your visit with when there's a tour going on. Visit their site for tour dates.
NOTE: You are looking for "The Cache of Steel"! Yes, it's a steel container. Yes, it will take the might of "The Man of Steel" to open. Hey, it's not easy to get into the Fortress of Solitude! So get ready to flex those muscles! Please re-close just as tightly, and re-hide just as well. Also, beware of muggles. They will be watching from all around, even from above! Terrain is a bit rough, but not too difficult. Cache contains lots of stuff, including: a copy of the "Daily Planet". No, the pen is not made of kryptonite. Have fun, but most importantly... Enjoy!
Congrats to AddisonBR on the FTF!
