The church was originally used for worship by members of the established church from Llandeilo, until it became a non-conformist chapel shared by four different denominations. Unitarians, Methodists, Baptists, and Independents (Annibynwyr) all worshipped here for a while before moving on (the Independents are the Welsh equivalents of the English Congregationalists). The building then reverted to the established church in 1838, where it remains to this day.
This particular church is of special historical importance as this is the first place where the baptists established their presence in the area.
Evidence of this can be seen outside - a very unusual feature of this church is its baptism well. This is fed by a spring and is filled by closing a small sluice gate. It has a set of steps down into the baptistery.
Even if this is a cache and dash, make time to see this unusual feature as very few churches have such a baptistery.
For more information about this location, see this local history web page about the location.
The cache starts off with a couple of small swaps, trackables and of course, a trophy for first to find!
If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, we would just ask that you could let sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
