Geocache Description:

While placing training caches for our Geocaching 101 event, I decided that the APEC needs more real caches. With the blessings of the APEC staff, I present this one. This cache is about half way between the main entrance and the Springs of APEC Earthcache.

A level but at times challenging walk along the trails of Alley Pond Park. To the east, a natural pond, brooks and forests. To the west, the the noise of the Cross Island Parkway.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE FROM THE PARKWAY. Enter through the main entrance on Northern Blvd.

The Alley Pond Environmental Center is a 166 acre free facility offering community programs, children's programing and a neat animal collection. Trails are open dawn to dusk, but the education center closes at 4 pm. May be reached by the Q12 bus from Main Street Flushing.

Parts of the trail are very muddy during certain times of year and portions are overgrown...hence the 3.5 star difficulty. The cache is a 1.1 gallon camoflaged Rubbermaid box which is easy to find once you reach GZ.

The theme of the cache is Nature and the appreciation of nature. If you trade, please swap with something with that theme.

Good place for travel bugs now that the travel bug hotel in Kissena Park is gone.
