Overton Basic Tour Cache Multi-Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
BearDroid's first multi cache - it's quite basic and should not be too difficult. The whole route including walking back to the suggested parking is under 2.5 miles.
The route will take you around Overton. It is mostly on tarmac footpaths, apart from a small section near the start and also where the cache is hidden (to try to keep away from prying eyes). It is easy terrain suitable for families. We realised once we'd set it that it isn't the most interesting multi but hope you enjoy it anyway.
The co-ordinates will take you to the suggested parking opposite the church - sometimes busy on a Sunday but there should be space. It is also the site of the first clue. You are looking for a sign,
1. How many metres? A0m
Walk north on Kingsclere Road, past the cemetery until you reach a foopath on your right. You may be interested to put in a brief visit to "Little Meadow" on your left which contains a human sundial. Bear and Droid tried it today and it told us the time within 10 minutes. Take the footpath until you reach waypoint 2.
2. How many letters in the house name? = B
Continue along this footpath, crossing the two small bridges and taking the time to admire the river scene before emerging on to Station Road. This area was once a horse watering point for carriages travelling from London to Exeter - it's a real shame that horses are now prohibited from using this path.
As you emerge on to Station Road, turn right, over the river again and you will come to Waypoint 3.
3. You are looking for two numbers at adult eye level - C3
Continue down Station Road until you come to the Fire Station on your left, Waypoint 4
4. Maximum height 3.D metres
Continue down Station Road to the crossroads, straight over into Waltham Road to Waypoint 5
5. Southern Water - Site Reference Number 1E0949
Continue up Waltham Road until you reach Sprents Lane on your right, you are looking for the newly named Nursing Home
6. What's the last digit of the telephone number? F
Carry on down this road and straight over the crossroads up a steep but short hill. If you wanted to make a detour to visit the delights of Overton centre you could turn right at these crossroads to visit the co-op, bank, estate agent, hair salon, tea shop, Indian restaurant, Vet, Wine shop and many other distractions. But if you want to get to the final you should head up the hill (Greyhound Lane) and look for waypoint 7
7. What number is the lamp post? G
Continue past this next set of crossroads to waypoint 8
8. Whose field is it? Number of letters, including the S = H
You now have all the clues to find the final cache. Soon after finding your last clue you will be heading off-road to find the cache. Can't put proper directions now or it will give the location away.....
N51 GC.(B-A) (F+G) A
W001 (G+E) D. C (Fx2) (H-G)
It's only a small box we are afraid - not that many places to hide a large one this close to the village.
Once you have found the cache it is less than 1km back to the original parking. We suggest you carry on down the path, cross over the road, over the river, turn right up Silk Mill Lane and right at the top of the hill and down to your car - avoiding having to walk next to the B3400.
Hope you enjoyed our first attempt at a multi.......
