Geocache Description:

Great view of Lake Superior from this location - watch out for the sandy slope - you don't want to slide to the bottom

This one of the caches you can find if you hike to Hawk's Ridge. The trail to the cache location is about 2.5 kilometers long. Expect a hike of 5 km round trip to find this cache. This cache commemorates the very first cache to be placed in the Marathon area (GC88E3 - Hawk's Ridge by Don & Barb Gainer). The original cache was placed on September 2, 2002. The original cache was last found on May 15, 2004 by the 1st Marathon Cub Pack when I was introducing them to geocaching. It is hard to believe that was four years ago. Unfortunately the original cache was torched by muggles in September 2005. This original cache was finally archived on April 24, 2008. To find the final cache location, you will need to collect the codes from the following caches to solve the puzzle: GC1GYM6 - Way Past Hawk's Ridge GC1GYKD - Right Way to Hawks Ridge GC1GYK9 - 1 K 2 HR GC1GYM1 - Not This Way 2 HR GC1H54Z - 3/4 Way 2 HR Once you have all of the caches, the coordinates of the "Hawk's Ridge 2" cache are as follows: N48° AA.BBC W086° XX.YYZ Depending on the route you take to the final cache location, watch out for the sandy slope. You don't want to slide to the bottom of the hill. From Hawk's Ridge you will have a great view of Lake Superior. For your information, the lagoon across the railway tracks is the secondary effluent treatment plant for the pulp mill in Marathon. While you are in the area, you may want to look for the following caches on the way to Hawk's Ridge: GC1AEE1 - Wrong Way to Hawk Ridge GC1FTNH - Hawk's Ridge Trail
