Relatively easy walk - parking available nearby Picnic Area (open Dawn to Dusk) - ideal to 'take a break' from a journey along the A17.
A chance to visit the Nene Estuary at Sutton Bridge. The walk is along a mainly buggy-friendly Bridleway, although there is a gate and a number of steps at the start, and a slope up to the Seawall. The Pathway is dedicated to Sir Peter Scott, and known as the Peter Scott Walk. You pass the East Lighthouse, a former home of Sir Peter, where he lived from 1933 to 1939. During his residence he made a number of Wildlife Studies and Paintings, and also started his Wildfowl Collection. There is a dedication Blue Plaque on the external wall of the Lighthouse.
The Bridleway passes through another area of the Wash National Nature Reserve, the largest of its kind in England. Further info. can be found at their web site: www.naturalengland.org.uk. Whilst visiting this area you are encouraged to walk the footpath along the Seawall, giving some spectacular views across the Wash.
The road to the Car Park is adjacent to the River Nene, and the opposite (West) Bank houses Port Sutton Bridge, with its loading and unloading of small Traditional Cargo Boats, the River Pilots, Coastguard and Police Launches. You may even experience the opening or closing of Sutton Bridge itself, enabling the larger boats to progress down to Wisbech.
The Cache itself is located alongside the footpath; why not rest awhile and enjoy the River views Having been recently 'muggled' the original Cache has been replaced with a torpedo-style container, and has only a log book and pencil.
FTF! Congratulations to Mimi and Bod.
