Geocache Description:

This close-knit community has many interesting spots to visit including this little park. Take extra care when crossing the foot bridge.

Another neat location I like to visit is the quaint little free book exchange. If anyone wants to stop by, they hold the key next door at the post office!

Shirley, WV was named for the birthplace of Thomas Jefferson, Shirley, VA. His home at Shirley burnt down and he built "Monticello".
Sarah Adeline Moore Wright, wife of Major Franklin Wright, Civil War Veteran, operated the toll gate just above the village of Shirley between Georges Run and Shirley. She did this after her husband died.... around 1894. The money she collected went on to building the S&S Pike which is now Route 23 into Sistersville.

FTF congratulations go to daffydillyo. Way to go!
