The Fungus Amungus

Located along the Pacific Crest Trail, this section of the hike has been a favorite of ours for many years. When the autumn leaves start turning with the first crisp nip in the air, the Fungus Amungus starts a poppin'.

As for other times of the year, the remaining seasons offer their own charm to the hike. Stop on by for a nice easy stroll and knock off another piece of the PCT. This is a great location to take some up close pictures of a large variety of mushrooms. Even though some of the mushrooms are edible, we would not recommend it unless you are very familiar with wild mushrooms. Lots of Chantrelles and Lobsters but shhhhhhhhh!!! It is supposed to be a secret place.

The closest parking will be at the Panther Creek campground above Carson, WA. After finding this ammo can, be sure to find " Panther Creek Center Stage" while you are there. When you are done lollygaggin' and the legs are warmed up, continue west on the PCT towards the Wind River. After crossing the Wind River highway you will pass by " Walk 'n' Woods", " 5 points", " You Whistle Punk!", and " BoardWalk Beat". Still got game? " Trout Creek Tributary" and " On Eagle's Wings" await you. " On Eagle's Wings" is a great spot to enjoy the view and a meal before starting your return journey. If you you are looking for an overnighter there are a couple of nice spots along the trail to pitch a tent and spend the night. Otherwise, this should make for a nice extended day hike.
