Geocache Description:

The cache is not located at the above coordinates. This multi is all within Mt. Talbert Nature Park. You will never need to leave a mapped trail except to do the final find. The clue locations can be hiked using the park’s trail system, or to reduce walking you can drive from one park access point to the next. Start the cache search at parking location number one. Restrooms are available at parking location number three.

This cache is named after the Zia Sun Symbol that originated with the Indians of Zia Pueblo in ancient times. We became inspired to place the cache while on a west side trail. As we walked, shafts of light from the setting sun were coming through the trees painting the area in shades of gold, orange, and red. This is a beautiful park with good trails and a number of good caches. Four is the sacred number of Zia, thus the four stages, four directions, and use of the number four in some calculations. More information about the Zia Sun Symbol can easily be found on the Internet. Before searching for the cache, we suggest reviewing a map of the Mt. Talbert Nature Park trail system. HVHikers.com (Maps and Routes 2) is a good source for area trail maps. Stationary maps are located at some entrances and at certain points along the trails.

At locations one, two, and three you are looking for something existing, not hidden. At each of these locations you have a question to answer. Location number four is where the cache is hidden, and the only place where you will need to leave a main trail and search.

Parking for access points:
1. North: N 45° 25.882 / W 122° 32.665
2. East: N 45° 25.369 / W 122° 32.882
3. South: N 45° 25.231 / W 122° 33.136
4. West: N 45° 25.708 / W 122° 33.535

(Note: Parking area three is also the location of a monument to our TB, Talbert P. Squirrel. For fun please consider posting your picture standing by the monument.)

Location number one:
(Question to answer)

Start at parking area one. Calculate coordinates to the first clue by multiplying the number of spaces designated for park visitors only by the number of signs designating them. Call this number “Y”.

Y = __ __

Multiply “Y” by four and subtract the answer from the parking lot latitude. Multiply “Y” by two and add the answer to the parking lot longitude.

N 45 __ __ . __ __ __

W 122 __ __ . __ __ __

At the new coordinates you are looking for a number that when each digit is added together (X+X+X+X) is the same as “Y”. Assign each digit a letter (A, B, C, A).

__ __ __ __

A. = ____
B. = ____
C. = ____
D. = ____ (B – C)
E. = ____ (A + C)
F. = ____ (B + C)
G. = ____ (A + B)
H. = ____ (A + A)
I. = ____ (B – A)

Location number two:
(Question to answer)

N 45° CB.DEF / W 122° DC.GDF

Here you are looking for a two digit number that when added together equals nine. Assign this number the letter “J”.

J. = ____ ____

Location number three:
(Question to answer)

N 45° CB.DEG / W 122° DD.CBE

Here you are looking for a two digit number that when added together equals eight. Assign this number the letter “K”.

K. = ____ ____

Location number four:
(Final)

N 45° CB.HFA / W 122° DD.CCH

To correct the above coordinates multiply “J” by four and subtract this number from the latitude. Multiply “K” by four and add this number to the longitude.
