The town of Veliki Preslav is situated on either banks of the Ticha
River shortly before it flows into the Golyama Kamchia River. It is

Veliki Preslav (The Great Preslav) was the second Capital of the
First Bulgarain Kingdom. Tzar Simeon ( 893-927 ) erected the new
capital which became a powerful cultural, political and
administrative centre of the young christian state. The town had
area of about 5 km2 surrounded by fortress walls up to 3 m thick.
It is successor of the second capital of Asparuh`s state bearing
the same name - imposing ruins are to be found 2 km south of the
present day town. Veliki Preslav was the capital of the Bulgarian
kingdom from 893 (in this year Tsar Simeon move the capital from
Pliska to Preslav) until 969 in the epoch of its supreme might and
in the boom of Old Bulgarian culture (the so-called Golden
Age).
