PHC - Oil Refining Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Hard Oiler: The old stump that held the cache is sadly no more so time to put this one to rest. It had a good run. Thanks to all who visited.

Geocache Description:

PHC stands for Petrolia Historic Cache and the series is intended to highlight some of the historic locations and events in the Petrolia Area.

In 1879 Jacob Englehart built the 1800 bbl Silver Star refinery here. After Imperial Oil was formed in London in 1880 an adjacent refinery was acquired and in 1884 Imperial's Head Office was relocated from London to just across the street from here. By 1887 Imperial Oil's 1000 b/d Petrolia refinery covered 65 acres and employed 500 people. It operated until 1899 when Imperial moved their operations to Sarnia.
