Geocache Description:

A small lock'n'lock container place at the site of the former McCoy Dam power station and lock house.

This site was once the McCoy Dam hydro-power station and one further down the creek (about a mile away) where the power source for Milesburg at one time. This dam was erected by the McCoy family that use to own the house just north of the former power station.

The dam was recently removed with a combined effort of US Army Corp. of Engineers and PA Fish and Game Commission. The dam was removed to improve fish habitat and increase water flow along spring creek.

The site where the cache is located is part of the remaining foundation of the power station and lock house. On the far side of the creek you can see the remaining wall of the west side of the dam and some remains of the Spring Creek Canal used for moving logs down to Bald Eagle Creek.

I have heard many stories about this area from relatives of the McCoy family; the current owners of the nearby property.

Fishing is permitted in this area, and you might run into fishermen using the creek. The cache should not in anyway disturb them so it is available at anytime.
