Emblemàtica obra de l’arquitecte Josep Renom construït entre 1928 i 1930. És un edifici de planta irregular quadrilàtera aixamfranada als quatre vèrtex, que és per on s’hi accedeix a través de portes de grans dimensions. Una important estructura metàl·lica dona porxades de molta llum i alçada i queda al nivell públic la planta diàfana.
Els materials utilitzats són formigó, pedra natural de Castellar, maó, pedra artificial a les cantonades, sòcols, cornises i acabament (a més de la ja esmentada estructura de ferro), s’aconsegueix així una adequada combinació per a la fortalesa de l’obra, amb una estètica senzilla però de llenguatge clar i harmònic.
Davant mateix hi ha l’edifici modernista de la Fundació Antiga Caixa Sabadell 1859. Al costat hi ha el Museu de l’Institut Català de Paleontologia amb una bona col·lecció de restes de dinosaures (http://www.icp.cat/)
This market is a Josep Renom’s emblematic building. It was built between 1928 and 1930. It has a four sided irregular ground plant, chamfered ad the fourth vertex, where the entrance is through very large doors.
A metalwork structure forms high arcades full of light, leaving the ground floor at street level.
The materials used are concrete, natural stone from Castellar, brick, artificial stone at the corners at baseboards, cornices and finishings (besides the already mentioned iron structure), they together achieve a combination that is right for the building strength and an aesthetic outlook that speaks a clear and harmonious language.
In front of this market there is the art-decó building of Fundació Antiga Caixa Sabadell 1859. At its side you can see the Museum of the Catalan Institute of Palaeontology which owns a very good collection of dinosaurs remains (http://www.icp.cat/)
