Bridge to Somewhere Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

BiPR: This is a beautiful, wild spot. Worth the hike anyway. But the cache seems to have disappeared into Mother Nature's hands and i don't get down these trails often anymore, so best to let this one go. Thanks to all who visited it. Enjoy the journey.

Geocache Description:

The Goat Hill trail that runs between Plummers Landing and Hartford Ave. is reconnected, thanks to a new footbridge which replaces the one that washed away in October 2005. The cache is about 1.2 miles from Plummers Landing and 1.3 miles from Hartford Ave. Follow the trail along the canal and river, and watch out for erosion, rocks and roots. Hide-a-key micro. Bring a pencil. Cache was replaced March 12, 2009 and coordinates updated.

The 2.5-mile trail along the Blackstone River and Canal between Plummers Landing in Northbridge and Hartford Ave. in Uxbridge is a favorite running and hiking route. It connects across Hartford Ave. to the 1.25-mile Lady Carrington Towpath, by River Bend Farm, which leads to the old Stanley Woolen Mill. Mountain bikers also frequent this trail, although they usually divert to the higher ground and circuitous routes away from the river.

In October 2005, storms flooded the Blackstone and one of the wooden footbridges washed away, leaving a large gap in the trail. Thanks to the Boy Scouts and others, the "Golden Spike" was driven in October 2008 and you can now travel this trail all the way through again. Watch for diverse wildlife and historic sites like Goat Hill Lock. The trail covers remnants of the Blackstone Canal towpath, which operated between 1828 and 1848. The washed-away bridge now rests downstream in the middle of Rice City Pond, a true Bridge to Nowhere.

The cache is meant to be environmentally gentle, so no bushwhacking is required. Please replace carefully.
