Geocache Description:

The Alabama Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South met at Talladega First Church in 1854 and created two colleges which later became Auburn University and Birmingham-Southern College.

This cache is placed here to call attention to the nearby historical marker. In 1854, seven years before the outbreak of the Civil War, the Methodists met at Talladega First Church (which was then located elsewhere) and decided to start two colleges: one in Auburn and one in Greensboro. The college at Auburn was transferred to the state of Alabama in 1872 and became Alabama Polytechnic Institute. The one in Greensboro was later merged with Birmingham College and became Birmingham-Southern College.

Note: The church wall deflects the GPS signal so I had to average several readings. It may be good to start some distance from the building and get your bearings.
There is a souvenir placed with the cache for the First to Find.

Congratulations to Tarheel Trio on FTF: only their 6th cache!
