Geocache Description:

Update (6-15-23): Wow! Wow! Upon conducting Owner Maintenance I discovered that after 15 years, the Old Man has recently partially succumbed to his old age. However he is still there just with an even wider yawn. Still impressive and interesting to explore. I can only imagine how he shook the ground! He has a certain physical feature that is more exposed now. :-)

The intended path to the cache is via an "off-trail trail" to the right of the sandy beach at the creek at the bottom of the hill. This trail has some overgrowth but it's just invasive vinca and Lady Ferns (not PI). This used to be an actual nature trail with numbered landmarks and even a bench was there so people could sit and admire the Old Man.

This is another cache hunt to take you on a walk (about 15 minutes) in beautiful wooded surroundings. Recommended route: follow the power easement road from trailhead coordinates. Hang a right onto the trail. (You will pass the side trail to NYA Woodland Creature on your way.) You will need to bushwack only when you get to the beach at the creek (well, unless you prefer a lot of thrashing around the woods with a more direct route). Please watch your step. The Old Man of the Woods will greet you at GZ with a BIG yawn as he has seen all there is to see over his many many years as patriach of the woods--a little bitty cacher like you bores him! In fact, he could swallow you whole! ATTENTION!! Out of respect for preservation of the Old Man, THE CACHE IS **NOT** WHERE YOU THINK. Cache has swag and can hold TBs/coins.

Note: The destroyed bridge across the creek has not been rebuilt so no short cut from the front parking lot (unless the creek is dry and you can cross the rocks (slippery with algae when wet).

Typical woodland warnings: mosquitos, ticks, snakes, ground holes, widowmaker trees, etc.
