Geocache Description:

Thedford City Park

This cache is on a hill overlooking the Thedford track and practice football field at the west end of the Thedford City Park. The area is wooded with prairie grasses, soap weed, cactus and other typical Sandhills terrain. Wildlife abounds and one can see deer tracks as well as startle a rabbit out of the brush. During practice season, this area is overloaded with muggles, so stealth is required. Watch for stickers and snakes (some possibly of the poisonous variety). From this spot you can see the Sandhills to the north and south of Thedford, and in the fall, there are many golden maples and cottonwoods interspersed with the cedars and pine trees in the area. You are searching for a small round camouflaged container. In the summer there are public bathrooms to the east side of the ball diamond (directly across from “Critter Cache.)” Camping at the park is free and the large trees in the playground area of the park provide shade from the summer sun. There is RV parking as well as water spigots and trash dumpsters in the camping area (located near Highway 2 Camp Stop). Please CITO as this beautiful area can get a bit littered. Thank you. Thedford is the Thomas County Seat and sports an art gallery, a museum, a library, a full-service grocery store with fresh cut meat and gourmet cheeses, as well as a hardware store, a photo studio, a women’s fitness club, a car repair shop and a bank. We also have our own elementary and high school. At the east edge of town you can find two motels, a café, a steakhouse and two convenience store/gas stations with repair bays. The Thomas County Fairgrounds and the Bessey National Forest are further to the east. Thedford lies on the Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway and you can travel in any direction and find a number of caches placed by a growing community of geocachers.
