This is another artist in my Delta Blues Series that I struggled
with. He was indeed born, raised, and strongly influnced in the
Delta. However, McKinley Morganfield (aka Muddy Waters) left the
Delta for Chicago in 1943 and never looked back. Before he left, he
had learned to sing powerfully and expressively in the tightly
constricted, pain-filled manner that characterized the best Delta
singers.
From the middle 1950s Waters' songwriting became almost wholly
urban in character. He found popularity among a wide audience.
Waters has been emulated by many and has influenced countless
artists who came after him. Waters performed almost uninterruptedly
for the rest of his life. He died quietly in his sleep in 1983 but
his music is heard still throughout the world.
The cache is located near a lovely beach. I think there is
poison ivy in summer.
