WWFM IV Wausau, WI (HATS!) November 8th, 2008

Summary: The Basic Idea:

A "Flash Mob" Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present and sign a log sheet DURING this time to claim the event.

Please BYOP! (Bring your own pen) And BYOH! (Bring your own hat)

The World Wide Flash Mob Event:
Dozens of events all around the world, coordinated to happen at the same time to bring together geocachers and introduce others (newbies) to the geocaching.

You're heard of MEGA-EVENTS? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. FLASH MOBS have gathered for other reasons. Come be part of this historic event!

The event will last EXACTLY 15 minutes, not one second longer.

This is a themed event. Please wear a hat. Any hat will do, but the crazier, nuttier or funnier the better.

The event will begin precisely at 12:00 Noon on Nov 8, 2008. The event will be held at The Arts Block Square in downtown Wausau. This is known as the 400 block to locals. This is in an open public space. The event will be highly organized and facilitated by volunteers. We could use a couple more, so if you would like to help, send us an email.

The Plan

Before the event starts, mill around downtown. Try not to look like you are waiting for something to happen. Hide your hats and do your best muggle impersonation.

At exactly 12:00 Noon (as determined by the GPS clock) we will place an ammo can and a swag bucket at the listed coordinates. At this point, all geocachers will put on their hats and converge, seeming to come out of "nowhere".

Volunteers will hand out "log sheets" / raffle entries (same sheet) as well as the banquet meal. Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later become a log book), to qualify for attendance and drop them in the ammo can. Bring a pen. Participants may trade swag and travelers via the swag bucket at any time. We encourage you to bring nice swag to trade.
If any muggles are curious about the event we will have a volunteer hand out fliers that explain geocaching.

At 12:10, we will take a group photo. Please listen carefully for instructions and assemble as quickly as possible.
At 12:14, we will call out the raffle winner. The prize will be the official Flash Mob ammo can and a FTF honors certificate.

At precisely 12:15 a signal will be given and all attendee will throw their hats in the air. The swag bucket and the log sheets will be packed up and sealed away. The event area will be vacated without a trace!!!

Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log the event.

Tell your friends and help promote the event!

Suggestion: COME EARLY TO FIND PARKING. There are numerous parking ramps in the area (free on weekends) within a short walking distance to the square. Please keep your hats hidden!

Note: Although participants are welcome to get together after the event, the event will officially be over at 12:15. Afterwards, at the meeting, participants may chat, meet, eat and plan for a day of caching!!! We will recommend a nearby meeting place during the event.

I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?" (That's part of the fun!)

Please note on your Will Attend log how many will be in your group.
