Geocache Description:

Over near Ruston, Louisiana is a series of caches called ‘What Used To Be’ by ptmvette and Little’n. If you go further east to Monroe, Louisiana there is another series by 73Rebel called ‘Those Were The Days’. Well, we enjoyed those caches and thought it was time we had a similar series around this area. This is the second cache in what hopefully will be a series devoted to places and things that used to be and will probably never return.

On this site was once the largest motel in this area. It was built at the time that the so called Bossier Strip was famous. The Strip was a string of motels and night clubs along Highway 80 (now called East Texas Street). There was back room gambling abound and it was all illegal.

It was the Western Hills Motel. I believe it was built in the late 1950s and was torn down in about 2005. Today a bunch of concrete slabs and the main sign is all that remains. I would guess that the modern day casino hotels took away the business from this old motel.

The intersection in front was always called "The Y". They reworked it a few years ago and it is no longer just a "Y" so that name does not fit anymore.

The cache is a magnetic key holder. The cache is on public property. Please place the container back just as you found it.There is only a paper log. Be sure to bring a pen or pencil.

There WILL be muggles. Use stealth!

Congratulations to ptmvette and Little’n for being the First-To-Find.
