This is a puzzle cache that requires only the most remedial of math skills. The cache itself is in Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls. The cache is not at the posted coordinates. What you will find there is a dedication plaque to Edna C. MacMahon, a woman who was pivitol in the creation of the trails in Dutchess County parks through her contributions and support. You will have to take note of the year on the plaque.
To find the Northern coordinates for the final, you must ADD the last two digits from the year on the plaque to:
N 41*36.143
To find the Western coordinates for the final, you must SUBTRACT the last two digits from the year on the plaque from:
W 073*56.421
Example: if the year is 1927, then you would use 27 for your calculations.
The final will bring you to a spot where you will see a building that is no longer in use. Years ago, this building was associated with the Boy Scouts of America, but now it is boarded up and the area has become engulfed by Bowdoin Park. When it was still in use, a friend got the use of the building and we had one HECK of a Halloween party there. If you listen closely, maybe you can hear the ghosts of Halloween past here.
Bowdoin Park is located along the Hudson River on Sheaf Rd. in Wappingers Falls and is open from 9am-6pm. Trail maps can usually be found at a kiosk just after the main gate. There is plenty of parking with several pavilions and a nice playground for kids. Pets are allowed as long as they are on a leash of no more than 6 feet. Be sure to bring a camera and enjoy this beautiful park.
