Bird haven on grey water.
The Goolwa effluent ponds are a haven for birds. The ponds and surrounding area are an important and diverse habitat that attract a wide range of wetland and bushland bird species.
This location is one of those hidden gems that you find unexpectedly.
Park your car at the mound of dirt and walk down the track. Please don't drive over the mound even if you have a 4WD as it has been placed there as a vehicle barrier by the local council.
During warm weather it probably isn't wise to take the shortest way to the location even though you can see the steps as the grass is high.
The cache is a medium sized snap-lock container.
You may find the lagoon is dry and no birds are around. This is because the Alexandrina Council now are selling the treated grey water that used to be in the ponds to businesses in the area for use on their grounds.
