Cache is placed near the less know Mangatutu Hot springs. You can drive your 4WD car within a 100m of the geocache and walk another 100m to the Tub in the middle of the bush for a bath
Mangatutu Hot spring is near the end of Makahu road after going through Pukititiri and past Ball's clearing. The road is windy, narrow and has some steep drops but very do-able in a 4WD. (I personally have done this in 2WD - without problems). May be snow in this area during the coldest days in winter - so check out the forecast and let common sense prevail.
There are up to 3 stream crossing to go through in your car but they are very easy. There is a bridge by-pass for each crossing in case the water level (which is indicated) is too high.
There is a campsite and BBQ here which are very popular in the summer. At the end of the road is also the carpark for the Te Puia Lodge and Mangatainoka Hot Springs.
We combined this trip with a visit to Geocache at Balls clearing. Littles clearing can also be done on the same day but suggest you do that first and save this for last. There is nice decking around the tub and this really is a beautifil place for a tub, especially at night.
You can also go hunting in this area although there seems to be more deer in the area of the littles clearing cache and northern birch range.
Enjoy
