Geocache Description:

A small cache located near, not on, the Fletcher Covered Bridge which spans Tenmile Creek.

A small cache to bring you to one of the last two covered bridges in Harrison County. At one time, Harrison County had in excess of sixty covered bridges. Now the Fletcher Covered Bridge and the Simpson Creek Covered Bridge (GCQNHM) are the only two that remain.

Built in 1891, this single-span multiple Kingpost truss crosses over Tenmile Creek. It derived its name from the nearby Fletcher Family. Cost of the bridge was $937.46. Since its construction in 1891, the tin roof has been replaced with asphalt roofing paper and until rehabilitated in 2002, the bridge had been unaltered and in continuous use. The bridge is now owned by the state. It was listed together with ten other historic covered bridges in West Virginia, on the National Register of Historic Places on June 4, 1981.

The cache is not on the historical property but within sight of the bridge. The bridge is still a working bridge and you can drive across it. There is a turn around /parking spot just on the other side.

CONGRATS TO BRAINTREKS FOR THE FTF!!
