O objectivo desta cache, enquadrado no “Projecto GeoGare - A ver passar os comboios”, é para além de encontrar o contentor, assinar o Log Book e ter contacto com o fantástico ambiente rural da Linha do Oeste, o de tirar uma foto da Estação de Caldas da Rainha (a colocar com o log).

Caldas da Rainha têm uma estação de comboio à responsabilidade da Linha do Oeste. A linha segue para Lisboa a sul e para a Figueira da Foz a norte. As automotoras são do tipo 0450. O tempo de viagem entre Caldas e Lisboa é de duas horas. A linha do Oeste, no seu conceito original, ligava Lisboa à Figueira da Foz, passando por Torres Vedras e Caldas da Rainha. De 1888, data em que este itinerário foi inaugurado, até aos nossos dias, as lógicas de exploração mudaram, tal como mudou a própria região servida pela via-férrea. Hoje, o ponto de início da linha é a estação de Meleças/Mira-Sintra, perto do Cacém, sendo o troço Lisboa-Cacém considerado unicamente como parte da Linha de Sintra. De qualquer das formas, os acessos de comboio a partir de Lisboa-Oriente, Campolide ou Roma-Areeiro são muitos e frequentes. A Linha do Oeste vai percorrer cerca de 200 km até à Figueira, atravessando duas regiões distintas do ponto de vista sócio-geográfico: até às Caldas da Rainha (o que corresponde, sensivelmente, a metade do trajecto) e daí até à Figueira. Curiosamente, se a primeira metade da viagem decorre através da zona ainda polarizada por Lisboa, o desenho e o ambiente das estações são caracteristicamente oitocentistas. É o caso dos alpendres de ferro protegendo os cais, dos característicos edifícios das estações com rés-do-chão e primeiro piso e do tipo de escrita dos painéis com os nomes das gares. Até às Caldas está-se em pleno reino do azulejo ferroviário: são decoradas a rigor as estações de Mafra (Carlos Mourinho, Gomes e Salvador, 1934), Outeiro (onde poderá ver uma curiosa representação da batalha entre anglo-lusos e franceses em 1808, da autoria de J. Oliveira, também criador dos famosos azulejos da estação do Pinhão, Linha do Douro), Bombarral (onde as alusões à viticultura não podiam faltar – Jorge Pinto, 1930), Óbidos (com representação de alguns aspectos da vila-património – J. Victória Pereira, 1943) e Caldas da Rainha (Carlos Aleluia, 1924).

The purpose of this cache, framed in the "Project GeoGare - viewing the passing train," is in addition to find the container, sign the Log Book and have contact with the wonderful rural environment of the western line, take a picture of the Station from Caldas da Rainha (and place in the log).

Caldas da Rainha has a train station on the responsibility of the Line of the West. The row follows to Lisbon to the south and the Gold Coast to the north. The trains are the type 0450. The travel time between Caldas and Lisbon is two hours. The line of the West in its original concept, linking Lisbon to Figueira da Foz, through Torres Vedras and Caldas da Rainha. From 1888, date on which this route was opened, until the present day, the logic of exploitation changed, as has changed the very region served by rail. Today, the starting point of the line is the season of Meleças / Mira-Sintra, near the Cacém, with the Lisbon-section Cacém considered only as part of the Line of Sintra. Either way, the hit by train from Lisboa-Oriente, Campolide and Roma-Areeiro - are many and frequent. The Line of the West will go about 200 km to the Figueira, crossing two regions separate from a socio-geographic: up to Caldas da Rainha(which is, significantly, half of the journey) and thence to the Figueira. Until Caldas you are in the realm of tile rail: they are decorated in effect the seasons of Mafra (Carlos Mourinho, Gomes and Salvador, 1934), Outeiro (where you can see a curious representation of the battle between Anglo-French in 1808 and lusos , By J. Oliveira, also creator of the famous tiles of the station's Pinion, Line Douro), Bombarral (where the allusions to viticulture could not miss - Jorge Pinto, 1930), Millbrae (with representation of some aspects of village - heritage - Victoria J.
