Wirral has so many lovely pubs from quiet relaxing pubs, child friendly pubs and also pubs with great entertainment. Best of all we have lots of “Real Ale” pubs. This series, we hope will hi-light some of our fantastic pubs.

The Fox & Hounds was built in 1911, originally comprising a bar and snug. Situated in the conservation area of Barnston, the present pub was built on the site of an Ale House & Barn. A lot of the original character was retained when the present licensee Ralph Leech converted the downstairs living accommodation into drinking space in 1984.
The decor of this pub is true to it's origins, featuring an assortment of memorabilia with collections of Brass ashtrays (85), Horse brasses (125), Empty whisky cases (135), Ceramic ashtrays (30), a collection of Police helmets and other hats, plates, bottles (150), Guinness clocks and many other items of interest. Above the door in “The Snug” is a poster advertising The Beatles & The Big Three for the Heswall Jazz Club at the Woman’s Institute. Admission 7/6p. We love the bar best. It’s just so interesting and very different to other bars. We think this pub is one of a sadly dying breed, the true community local pub.
In the summer months the drinking area a at the back of the pub is a profusion of colour with flower tubs and hanging baskets.

Most of the Edwardian building's character has been preserved, including pitch pine woodwork and leaded windows.
The Fox and Hounds has been named Wirral Pub of the Year for 2008 by the Wirral Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). Food is only served at lunchtimes.

No quiz question with this pub, just a question easily answered when you park at the car park. The car park is the nearest place you can park to the cache. Please be careful along the road as the pavement is very narrow and the road is very busy.

The coordinates are N53 20.612
