Geocache Description:

This is a silver ammo box tribute cache for my pal, Drtmn, in Whitewater Canyon Wildlife Preserve.

PLEASE pay attention to these potential hazards!!!: Public Hunting is allowed so BLAZE IT when appropriate! I would also wear hiking boots for traction and bring, perhaps, a hiking stick as well. This cache is about 70 feet back from any cliff edges, but the drop is 200 feet, so I would leave the kids a real safe distance back on this one. SNAKES may be a problem - copperdog says there are rattlesnakes in the area. Be careful when probing around. All I know about snakes is that they are cold-blooded and sit in the sunlight to warm up. Nevertheless, be careful on this one and the nearby Earthcache!

This may be an untypical BGT cache (ammo can, 1.2 mile roundtrip, no drive-up privilege), but sometimes we have to sacrifice for our friends!

There are nice mowed trails, and there is much to see at this 200-acre preserve, jointly administered by two counties. There are other caches, but no real direct ways to get to them, so rest up and bring hiking apparel to fully enjoy your time here. There is also a natural landbridge. If you are a kayaker or canoer, you might consult Paddling Iowa for details on travelling Whitewater Creek. Have fun!
