A Brief History on Geocaching

Long ago, the first people to hunt for geocaches were cavemen.
cavemen

Yes, this was even before Geico, and these cavemen would look far and wide for a cache. There were several obstacles that the original geocachers had to overcome.

For one thing, they didn’t have computers yet, so it was very difficult to download coordinates.
Light Pole Cover

Secondly, no one had invented light pole covers, so a lot of really good hiding spots weren’t available.

As the sport of Geocaching progressed, the art of finding caches were developed into finely honed skills. Some say that way back in history, the best geocaching tricks were Ancient Chinese Secrets.

Unfortunately, some folks would kill for these secrets!
MAZE

As geocachers developed more and more ways to hide their caches, the skill level had to grow as well.
Where Is It?

Just like the ancient caveman, even today grown adults, children and some small animals can be found on all fours, looking under, over, around and into strange places.

This brings us to the modern day geocacher, armed with the high-tech equipment that people could only dream of twenty years ago.
Cellphone

Yes, I’m referring to the cellphone. And we have certainly made a lot of progress with GPS units as well.

Did you know the first GPS units operated on house current, there were no battery-operated models?

Extension Cords

That didn’t prevent some from geocaching, they just had to have a really, really long extension cord.

Now we have technology on our side with small, dependable GPS units, cellphones to call a friend, and of course, the most important feature

crying baby

for successful geocaching, a role model to inspire us to continue the search no matter how tired, mosquito bit, dirty, thirsty, hungry, sun-burned and constipated we might be.

How did we figure out who would become the role models for geocachers everywhere? It was by their numbers. Yes, regardless of what dribble you may have read that “It’s not about the numbers”, all I can say is HOGWASH!!!

That’s like saying football isn’t about the score, boxing isn’t about the knockout, and dancing isn’t about… well, let’s get back to geocaching!

IT IS ABOUT THE NUMBERS

And that’s what brings us to this event.

Diggin’ Up Bones has reached a milestone in geocaching worthy of a celebration, and you’re invited! All of her friends, geocaching buddies, travel bug enthusiasts, pathtag collectors and even total strangers with lots of money (or geocoins) are invited.

The WHEN and WHERE is listed at the top of this page. The WHY is also listed above. The only thing that remains to be determined is WHO and that is up to you.

Come on down for a fun time as we help Diggin’ Up Bones celebrate her BIG 1-K 1,000 cache finds. Those who have cached with her can exchange stories and tall tales of their adventures. Those who haven’t had the opportunity can marvel at the bravery of those who accepted the challenge and accompanied Diggin’ Up Bones as she hunted for those elusive caches in far away places.

This event location is well known for it’s great Italian cuisine.
Italian Food

Come for the great company, and eat if you wish (but not required)! Everyone will be responsible for their own food, but we will be providing the soft drinks.

And everyone can help provide the entertainment.

If you only attend one event in your lifetime, this probably isn’t it.

Crowd

I would hope you could make it to something important like a wedding, a graduation, a birthday party, something really big and expensive.

But if you want to attend an event that is going to be a lot of fun for everyone, THIS IS IT!!! And we sure hope to see you here!

NOTE: Both Presidential Candidates have been invited to attend, and neither one has cancelled, so WHO KNOWS?? However, since the election will be over long before we have this event, we only want the winner to come, and he'll be getting ready to move to D.C., so we're back to the other guest speaker.

But even more important than some ol' politicians, we want YOU to join us for the fun!

Door Prizes Will Be Given Away At 7:00PM
YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN
