Geocache Description:

A traditional cache placed at the junction of the Thames Path and the disused North Wilts Canal. The container is a black tube.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Thames Path follows England's best known river for 184 miles (294km) as it meanders from its source in the Cotswolds through several rural counties and on to the City of London. On its way the Trail passes peaceful water meadows rich in wildlife, historic towns and many lovely villages, finishing at the Thames Barrier near Greenwich.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is the site of one of several aquaducts on the eight mile North Wilts Canal. Opened in 1819, it formed a vital link between the Wilts & Berks Canal and the Thames & Severn Canal. The canal flourished until the building of the Great Western Railway, but when the aqueduct at Stanley collapsed in 1901 the Wilts & Berks Canal soon became derelict and by 1927 the North Wilts Canal was abandoned too.
