Geocache Description:

Park on the northeast side of the bridge. The cache is a drive-by, not quite wheelchair accessible.

A micro with logbook only - bring a pen. This one-lane bridge was built in 1924 and at the time crossed the Virgin River on the primary auto route from Zion Park to the Grand Canyon North Rim. This cache is really a bridge to my past. My mother was born in this town. My grandfather was the proprietor of the Shady Rest Service Station in Rockville. He built it with a small general store in front and a home in back. The building still stands east of the old church. Tourists to Zion National Park would stop and buy things at the store. The Dalton family owned a radio. At the time, radios were a new thing and scarce. Children from all around town would come to sit on the front porch and listen to that radio. At the age of thirteen, my mother met an old artist from California traveling to Zion National Park through Rockville to paint landscapes in oil. She was fascinated with his work. The artist told her that if she would convince her father to buy the materials, he would promise to give her free art lessons that summer. And so began the career of an extremely gifted oil painter, my mother, who never sold a painting, but whose marvelous talent lives on in the homes of dear friends and relatives. For my mother and grandparents, I dedicate this spot. As you discover this cache, hope you enjoy this beautiful place in this quaint little town.
