The "Boonies" series of caches are designed to get everyone to
explore areas you may have never traveled before. Get out and get
some exercise and enjoy nature!
The 309-acre Nippersink Nature Preserve has been transformed
from a former seasonal retreat for camping and recreational
vehicles to a year-round haven for people and wildlife. Visitors
can enjoy trails, picnicking, bird watching and nature observation.
Century-old oak trees that rise above two scenic lakes, and
woodlands, wetlands and marshes offer plentiful habitat for
wildlife.
Visitors can hike, bicycle or cross-country ski along nearly two
miles of trail circling the lakes and adjoining woodlands. A short
woodchip trail winds through open oak groves. Future plans include
a trail connection north to Lindenhurst and to surrounding
communities.
The cache is hidden off the trail not to far from Shelter B.
Thanks to allwayslooking_99 for the cache container (even though
he’s “done” looking! LOL).
