Geocache Description:

This cache is on Lyveden Way, a 9 mile circular walk between Lyveden, Wadenhoe and Fermyn Woods Country Park.

This cache, as it’s name suggests, looks across to Lyveden New Bield, a National Trust property between Oundle and Brigstock.

Parking can be found in a lay-by on Harley Way at N 52° 27.825 W 000° 33.325.
There is a National Trust Car Park at the top of the hill when the property is open to the public. There is a £2 charge for non-NT members and is free for NT members but please still get a ticket from the booth.

Lyveden New Bield was built between 1595 and 1605 by Sir Thomas Tresham as a garden lodge. Sir Thomas died in 1605 and his son, Francis ended his days in the Tower of London for his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot, so the building and garden were never finished. The National Trust has been gradually restoring the garden and orchard with varieties that would have been planted in Sir Treshams time.

There is an admission charge to enter the property, grounds and orchard - details can be found here -
