Park in the layby - such a shame about the rubbish dumping. Down to the stream and then cross over and up - an easy route up is there..
Gifford is the name of this old estate and the farm house still has crow steps to show its credentials. A lovely glen cut out by the burn - pity about the dumped car (How did it get there anyway!)
A superb example of a feudal Moot Hill (see Wikipedia by that name), a place of feudal law giving and corporal or even capital punishment :-(
The beech trees must have been planted a long time back - very good for fungi - Fly Agaric (watch out!), Hedgehog, Amethyst Deceiver, etc.
A local farm is called 'Thirdpart' because a third part of the Lands of Gifford were given as a wedding present in the 1600s.
The 'bridges' carry water pipes from a local covered reservoir.
Someone really must sort out the dumped rubbish at the layby! I will see what I can do.
