LoxKat Katarapko Light Mystery Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
***This cache is not at the listed co-ordinates***
The Southerly co-ordinates can be found in the LoxKat Walk the
Plank cache and the Easterly co-ordinates can be found in the
LoxKat Hermanville cache
This cache is one of five in the LoxKat (Loxton-Katarapko) series
that require you to cross the Murray River to get the smiley. There
are a few ways of doing this which are mentioned at the bottom of
the description.
The location of this cache is around some great big old River Red
Gum trees. The location holds what is (perhaps) the largest light
on Katarapko Island! :)
This cache is a regular sized container containing Log Book,
Pencil, stash note and some small trade items including a fly net
which would have been handy when planting these caches :)
YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS
The co-ordinates listed for this cache are the co-ordinates of
where to park your boat on crossing the river *** THE CACHE IS NOT
AT THIS LOCATION*** To find the cache you'll need the co-ordinates
that are Inside the back covers of the log books at the LoxKat
Hermanville cache and the LoxKat Walk the Plank
cache.
PLEASE be sure the cache is hidden how it was (or should have
been) when you found it. Put the loop on the hook but go no
further.
To cross the Murray River
There are a few options to get on to Katarapko Island. Bring your
own boat/kayak/canoe and paddle across, swim across or hire a canoe
from the nearby (100m away) Loxton Riverfront Caravan Park for a
modest hourly fee or indeed the day if you wish. I've had contact
with the park and been assured they do hire canoes to the general
public not just park guests.
It is recommend that you park your boat at
S34 26.768
E140 33.110
as this is central to all caches, just opposite the Caravan Park
and is a suitable safe location to beach (and board) your vessel.
You only need to cross the river once to recover all caches in the
LoxKat series then recross to return from where you started. It is
estimated that to recover all five caches will take in the order of
2 to 4 hours (depending on your walking speed, how often you stop
etc) from start to finish.
