Sorry this took so long!
We had experienced a few hurricanes in the Northeast growing up, so we knew some of the things to expect when Ike was coming. However, we had never seen the run on food, water, and gas to this degree (even during hard blizzards in the North). Going to HEB and seeing empty shelf after empty shelf was really eye opening as was the lack of gas at the local stations.
Once Ike hit we figured that since our power lines are underground that we would not have a major outage. That philosophy was destroyed at 6pm on Friday, just when the first winds hit. It was sort of like the football falling off the tee before kickoff - we never even had a chance. So, we ended up without power for about 4 days. After day 2 the refrigerator was emptied and after day 3 all the food was basically lost from the coolers as well.
On the bright side we played a lot of games with the kids and the weather was not too hot so we were fine. We felt a lot worse for the harder hit folks in Galveston and other parts of Houston. In the end we were pretty lucky and fortunate.
So here is our cache to commemorate Ike, sorry it took us so long! We put the cache near a new restaurant in the area that we really like. This should be an easy PnG.
